The future is off and printing. 3D printers and YOU

23/10/2015 @ 11:00 AM - 2:00 PM

Producing solid objects from computer models was once an expensive exercise reserved for high-end engineering and design firms. With the advent of simplified printing technology, low cost microcontrollers, and open software, 3D printing on your own personal desktop is not only a reality, it is fast becoming the norm.

3D printing is not just for geeks. It can be used to create stage props for theatre, create components for art works, print musical instruments, visualize 3D mathematical functions, and more.

This session is designed to introduce you to the notion of 3D printing in it’s various forms, as well as slowly introduce you to the technology, terminology, and methods used to turn your ideas a solid form you can physically hold in your hands.

This Makerspace activity is designed to introduce you to the concept of 3D printing, and how to get started. The session is targeted at complete novice beginners, however, anyone is welcome from any background, geek or not.
